Fibre Channel ServerNet Adapter Installation and Support Guide (G06.28+, H06.06+, J06.03+)
is achieved when this principle is applied to all hardware components that compose the path
from the processor to the ESS or the FCDM that contains M8xxx fibre channel disks.
For all connections:
• Define processors in different enclosures for the primary and backup DISK processes.
• Define FCSAs in different modules in an IOAM enclosure or, better still, in different IOAM
enclosures for the primary and backup DISK paths.
ESS Connections
For connections to an ESS:
• Define different FC switches for the primary and backup DISK paths.
• Define different ESSes for the primary and backup DISK images.
For more information about fault-tolerance planning, see the NonStop NS-Series Planning Guide.
In order to complete the configuration form and perform the tasks listed in “Disk Configuration
(ESS Connection)” (page 39), you must obtain information from the ESS administrator. (Again,
the choices about ports and LUNs provided by the ESS administrator should be determined by
the overall, fault-tolerance strategy.)
For more information about fault-tolerance planning, see the OSM Migration Guide.
FCDM Connections
Connections to M8xxx fibre channel disks in an FCDM require that:
• FCSAs be defined through their group, module, and slot designations
• FCDMs be defined through their shelf designations
• Individual disks be defined through bay designations
For fault tolerance, you must choose bays on different shelves or in different chains of shelves
when you locate primary and mirror disks. The system does not allow the location of primary
and mirror disks on the same shelf or chain of shelves.
For more information about fault-tolerance planning, see the OSM User’s Guide.
Start Completing the Configuration Forms
ESS Connections
Print the FCSA Configuration Form and the FCSA to ESS Connection Form from Appendix A,
FCSA Configuration Forms for ESS Connections. If you are installing more than one FCSA,
complete an FCSA Configuration Form for each FCSA. You can use one FCSA to ESS Connection
Form to record information about the WWNs of eight FCSAs. (Each FCSA requires two lines,
one for each SAC.) You will not be able to complete the SAC 1 WWN and SAC 2 WWN
information during this procedure. You can obtain some of the fields by using SCF to add a DISK
after the FCSA is physically installed. (See “Obtain the Fibre Channel Port WWNs and Complete
the FCSA to ESS Configuration Form” (page 41).)
1. Record the FCSA’s part number and track ID on your FCSA Configuration Form.
This information is on the FCSA’s physical label. (See Figure 1-4 on page 1-9.)
2. Record the FCSA’s physical location on your FCSA Configuration Form as described in
Table 2-1.
