Switch the Paths to Another FCSA
Issue the SWITCH ADAPTER, AWAY command to move all the devices’ active paths to an
alternate path. (For more information about the SWITCH ADAPTER command, see the NonStop
S-Series Planning and Configuration Guide.)
->SWITCH ADAPTER $ZZSTO.#FCSA.GRP-11.MOD-2.SLOT-1 , AWAY
This command moves the paths to their alternates and warns you if a path cannot be switched.
If any of the paths do not have a functioning alternate, you receive an event message. You can
also perform a STATUS ADAPTER DETAIL command again to see if any paths did not switch.
All the DISK objects in the Configured Devices section of the output should show inactive (no
asterisk). If any DISK object is active, the path did not successfully switch, which means something
is wrong with its alternate path.
CAUTION: If one of the paths does not switch, fix the alternate path or else prepare to lose that
disk drive.
Stop the Devices That Are Using the Adapter
You can stop the disks one at a time by issuing SCF STOP DISK commands or all at once by
using the SWITCH ADAPTER, AWAY, FORCED command. The latter is more convenient when
you are stopping several devices.
CAUTION: The SWITCH ADAPTER AWAY FORCED command switches the paths and then
stops all the paths regardless of whether the alternate paths are working.
These examples show the STOP DISK method:
-> STOP DISK $DS101-P
-> STOP DISK $DS109-P
-> STOP DISK $DS106-B
-> STOP DISK $DS108-P
-> STOP DISK $DS110-P
This example shows the SWITCH ADAPTER method:
->SWITCH ADAPTER $ZZSTO.#FCSA.GRP-11.MOD-2.SLOT-1 , AWAY, FORCED
Label the Fibre Channel Cables
Check that the cables are correctly labeled. If not, label them using the procedure in Label the
Cables on page 2-12.
Replace the FCSA
This procedure refers you to OSM to perform the Replace action but provides illustrations and
information that supplements the procedures in OSM help.
Replacement Checklist
