Use OSM to Replace the Adapter
The OSM Service Connection has an interactive action to guide you through precautionary steps
and perform the necessary background checks to ensure it is safe to replace the FCSA.
1. Log on to the system using the OSM Service Connection.
2. In the Tree pane, expand the system hierarchy to locate and select the FCSA to be replaced.
3. Right-click the FCSA object and select Actions.
4. In the Actions dialog box, select Replace from the list of available actions and click Perform
Action.
5. A confirmation dialog box links you to online help topics that describe precautionary steps
to take before replacing the FCSA.
CAUTION: When handling the fibre channel cables, do not squeeze the cables below the
clips. The fibre cables contain glass and are easily broken.
6. After performing these steps, return to the confirmation dialog box and click Yes to instruct
OSM to continue with the procedure. OSM performs a check and then displays another
dialog box to indicate whether it is safe to remove and replace the existing FCSA.
7. Physically replace the adapter:
a. Remove the installed adapter and install the new one.
For removal, see Figure 3-3, Figure 3-4, and the text explaining them.
For installation, see Install the FCSA on page 2-10.
NOTE: FCSA installation slots differ by server model. For further information, see the
planning guide for your server model (for example, the Integrity NonStop NS1000
Planning Guide).
b. If the FCSA ports are connected to the FC switch and not directly to the ESS FC ports,
update the WWN zoning in the SAN so the ESS recognizes the FCSA.
c. Add WWNs to the ESS host group configurations as appropriate.
8. Once you remove the FCSA and insert the replacement, click Yes in the current dialog box.
OSM discovers and displays the status for the new FCSA.
9. OSM presents you with three options:
Bring up the FCSA and balance (makes the primary and mirror active)
Bring up the FCSA only
Leave the FCSA down and do not start the paths
Only if you select Leave the FCSA down do you have to perform the tasks described
in “Resume Operations” (page 59).
NOTE: If the WWNs fail to update after you install the replacement FCSA, you have to
obtain the fibre channel port WWNs using the STATUS ADAPTER command and complete
the FCSA to ESS Connection Form. For details about troubleshooting a failure of the ESS to
recognize the replacement FCSA, see “Error 66” (page 45).
10. With the new FCSA selected in the Tree pane, click the Attributes tab to see if the firmware
needs to be updated.
The procedures in OSM include the step of pressing down on the ejector latch and pulling the
FCSAs handle outward to unseat the adapter. Figure 3-3 shows this step.
