Fibre Channel ServerNet Adapter Installation and Support Guide (G06.28+, H06.06+, J06.03+)

4 Relocating an FCSA
This section describes how to relocate an FCSA that has been previously installed in an IOAM
enclosure.
NOTE: An FCSA can be relocated without shutting down the system.
“Overview of FCSA Replacement Procedures” (page 65)
“Prepare to Relocate an FCSA” (page 65)
“Remove and Relocate the FCSA” (page 66)
“Verify the Installation of the FCSA” (page 66)
“Resume Operations” (page 67)
NOTE: Whenever you handle an FCSA, follow standard operating practices to avoid
damage to the equipment. See “Review Standard Operating Practices” (page 66).
Overview of FCSA Replacement Procedures
When you move an FCSA but retain the path to the ESS, you can retain many of the DISK
attributes, but you must use the SCF ALTER command to change the location and backup location
attributes.
NOTE: Up to 256 DISK objects can be configured on an FCSA SAC.
In addition, you might need to have the ESS or FC switch administrators update the WWN zones
in the SAN with the FCSAs new location so that the new paths work. However, you might not
need to update the zoning only if the FCSA is being moved and the external connections remain
the same. Update the zoning if the FCSA is being moved and the external connections are being
reconfigured logically and physically. Check with the ESS or FC switch administrators to see if
the relocation procedure that you are planning requires an update to the WWN zoning.
NOTE: Adding or updating WWNs in the ESS is not required if the FCSA ports are directly
connected to the ESS FC ports.
Prepare to Relocate an FCSA
Preparation Checklist
1. For the proper tools, refer to Gather the Proper Tools on page 2-8.
2. Follow the procedure described in Print the FCSA Forms on page 3-2, but you only need
one form instead of the two indicated in that procedure.
3. Follow the procedure described in Determine the Physical Location of the FCSA on page 3-3.
4. Follow the procedure described in Identify the Devices on page 3-4
5. Follow the procedure described in Switch the Paths to Another FCSA on page 3-7
6. Follow the procedure described in Stop the Devices That Are Using the Adapter on page 3-7
7. Locate the New Slot:
Find the IOAM group, module, and slot containing the FCSA to be relocated and the empty
slot where you will relocate it.
FCSA installation slots differ by server model. For further information, see the planning
guide for your server model (for example, the Integrity NonStop NS1000 Planning Guide)
