Flow Map Manual

Glossary
098935 Tandem Computers Incorporated Glossary–1
application. A set of Tandem NonStop processes that execute an end-user business
function on a Tandem system. These processes are assigned to categories and the
application is given a name in the PDA configuration file.
arrow. Flow Map arrows indicate that one Flow Map object uses another object. For
example, if process A opens process B, Flow Map draws an arrow from A to B.
Arrows can be single or bi-directional.
attribute. Information about an object or a connection between objects. For example, a
possible attribute for a process is CPU busy time. Flow Map can display attributes as
rates or as absolute numbers.
connection. The path between two files or objects.
diagram. A graphical representation of the Flow Map file.
distribution directory. The directory where the Flow Map distribution files are located.
group object. A collection of lower-level objects. This helps keep diagrams manageable
in size. For example, you can group all processes for a server class into one group
object, or all TCPs into a single group object.
grouping function. The function that groups several objects or files into one object.
Measure. A performance monitoring product that runs on the NonStop operating
system. You can use Measure to collect and examine system performance data.
object. A Flow Map object represents an entity or group of entities in a Tandem
application. For example, one type of Flow Map object is a process. Flow Map
supports Process and File objects.
performance data sample. Performance information that is collected on the Tandem host
for a particular application or set of applications as input for a Flow Map diagram.
Performance data is collected using Measure or Surveyor, summarized using the
Performance Data Analyzer (PDA), and then downloaded to the PC for input to Flow
Map.
transient. How long the entity exists is compared with the duration of the
measurement window. The entity is considered transient if the existence time is less
than the defined percentage of the measurement window.
view. One version of a Flow Map diagram. You can create and name up to nine
different views of a diagram. Use the View Up and View Down commands to
navigate between views.
