Use the Palette tool from the tool bar to change colors of objects in the path:
You can also click the Shade tool once to shade selected objects light gray. To remove
shading, click the Shade tool again to produce white shading, then click the Palette
tool once to make object icons visible again.
Shortcut
Select the object and press Ctrl+p
