Updating Firmware
Firmware Updates Using OSM or TSM
Use the TSM Service Application or the OSM Service Connection (if OSM is already
installed) to update service processor (SP) firmware and processor boot code before
system load and to update SCSI boot code (pre-G06.08), SWAN concentrator CLIP,
and other firmware after system load. Adapter firmware is generally automatically
downloaded when a ServerNet adapter is started during system load. When using the
OSM Service Connection, use the Multi-Resource Actions dialog box to update most
firmware. However, do not use the Multi-Resource Actions dialog box to update ME
firmware or ME FPGA simultaneously on both fabrics, or a system outage might occur.
Firmware Update Requirements for the G06.28 RVU
If any firmware on your system does not match the versions listed in Table 1-2 on
page 1-14, you must perform firmware updates. If OSM is not already installed and
configured, use TSM to update firmware and load the system to the new RVU. If OSM
is installed and configured, use the Multi-Resource Actions dialog box (as noted under
Firmware Updates Using OSM or TSM).
You must use OSM to update firmware for products not supported by TSM, such as the
6780 ServerNet Switch, IOAM MEs, FCSA, G4SA, and Fibre Channel disks. For
information on using OSM to update firmware, see the OSM online help.
Table 1-1 lists the updateable firmware for processors, SPs, and SCSI SACs.
Caution. Before upgrading boot millicode using the online update function to T7892ABD, you
must have at least the G06.24 or later version of either the TSM server (T7945ABN) or all
OSM server-based SPRs (along with their prerequisites) configured and running. Otherwise, a
processor halt occurs.
Note. SP firmware T1089ABP or later is required to attach a NonStop S-series I/O enclosure
to the HP Integrity NonStop NS-series system. See Scout for the most recent T1089 SPR.To
connect an IOAM enclosure to a NonStop S-series system in a group other than group 01, you
must ensure that T1089ABR or later is installed. When using the Low-Level Link application to
update T1089, you must use FTP to transfer the file SPNTCDE9 from the host to the PC.
Other interoperability SPRs (FCSA, G4SA) might also need to be installed before attaching an
IOMF2 CRU to an Integrity NonStop NS-series system. See Table 1-1
on page 1-13, Table 1-2
on page 1-14, and the IUG2 for more information.
