OSS Files Greater Than 2 Gigabytes (Large Files)
The G06.29 RVU introduces OSS support for files larger than the previous 2-gigabyte
limit (large files). The OSS file system and utilities are able to handle file sizes up to 1
terabyte.
To implement this capability, the OSS file system and utilities are modified to support
Format 2 files (previously, all files were created as Format 1). All large files are created
as Format 2; small files (less than 2 GB) can be created as either Format 1 or Format
2. Format 1 files are automatically converted to Format 2 when opened using the OSS
64-bit utilities or Enscribe.
The ability to access large files can lead to problems if you install the G06.29 or later
RVU, and then need to fall back to an earlier RVU. Format 2 files are not supported in
pre-G06.29 RVUs. If your applications create new Format 2 files (large or small), you
cannot access those files on systems running RVUs earlier than G06.29.
DP2
A DP2 fallback SPR, T9053AQS, is available. This fallback SPR is preinstalled in
systems running G06.28; for those systems, no action is required. You can install the
SPR on systems running G06.24 through G06.27, as long as all prequisites are
included:

If you are currently running the G06.23 RVU, consider upgrading to G06.28 before
upgrading to G06.29 to facilitate fallback if fallback becomes necessary.

If you are currently running a G06.24 through G06.27 RVU, HP strongly
recommends that you install the fallback SPR before migrating to G06.29. The
installation of T9053AQS requires a system load.
Falling back to G06.23 or earlier RVUs is not supported.
When the T9053AQS fallback SPR is installed:

Format 2 OSS files smaller than the 2 GB limit are converted to Format 1 when
opened, so that the files remain usable. The file size cannot exceed the Format 1
limit.
Caution. You cannot simultaneously use both heap managers (T8431 and T1269) on the
same system.
WARNING. If you do not install the DP2 fallback SPR before migrating to G06.29 and a
fallback becomes necessary, you must perform a system load on the prior RVU, and then,
before using any OSS files, you must install and coldload to the DP2 SPR.
