What Is Included in This Manual
The manual is organized into seven sections and a glossary.
Section 1, Introduction, provides an overview of GDSX. The GDS subsytem is
discussed in terms of its objects, management functions, characteristics and
architecture. The section also explains Management Programming for the GDS
subsystem, GDSX architecture, the commands that an application can issue and
the different event messages that GDSX can send to an application.
Section 2, Communicating With GDSX, describes the SPI which is used to build
commands to or to decode responses and event messages received from the GDS
subsystem.
Section 3, SPI Programming Considerations, discusses the SPI programming
considerations that are specific to the GDS subsystem.
Section 4, Common Definitions, details definitions of the token-oriented
programmatic interface from four sources (API, EMS, Data Communications
standard, and GDSX) to the GDS subsystem.
Section 5, Commands and Responses, explains the syntax and semantics for all
commands and responses in the programmatic control-and-inquiry interface to the
GDS subsystem.
Section 6, Event Messages, details the event messages that the GDS subsystem
can issue and the specific programming considerations for dealing with GDSX
event messages in an application.
Section 7, Error Numbers and Error Lists, provides an explanation of errors and
details the error lists and the various tokens that are associated with an error list.
