About This Manual
This manual describes the Guardian Performance Analyzer (GPA) and tells you how to
install and use it on a Tandem system. The manual is intended mainly for system
performance analysts, system managers, and others responsible for the performance of
Tandem systems.
We assume in this manual that you are familiar with the Guardian operating system and
with Measure, the Tandem system performance measuring product.

Manual Organization
The GPA manual consists of four sections and a glossary as follows:
•
Section 1, Introducing GPA, gives you an overall view of GPA, what it does, and
how it works. It also tells you what you need in order to use GPA.
•
Section 2, Running GPA, tells you how to run GPA.
•
Section 3, Description of GPA Reports, describes in detail each type of entry GPA
provides in its output reports.
•
Section 4, Using GPA Information, explains how to interpret the information in the
GPA reports and how to implement some of GPA’s tuning recommendations.
•
The Glossary defines a number of the specialized terms used in this manual.
