Guardian Performance Analyzer (GPA) Manual—135081
2-7
The GPA Procedure
The system responds with status information showing the subvolume in which the
active files are located. For example, the following shows that the active Measure
files are in the subvolume SYS00:
Process Pri PFR %WT Userid Program file Hometerm
$XM00 0,50 199 P 001 255,255 $SYSTEM.SYS00.MEASCTL $BMTP.#TERM2
6. Create the three structured data files GPA uses for its analysis as follows:
a. At the TACL prompt, enter:
6> MEASCOM
b. When the MEASCOM prompt (+) appears, enter the following commands line
by line:
+ ADD measfile, [MEASFH, measfh]
+ SET REPORT FORMAT STRUCTURED, ZERO-REPORTS INCLUDE,
FROM xx:xx, TO yy:yy
+ LIST CPU *
+ LIST PROCESS *
+ LIST DISC *
+ LIST SERVERNET * (Optional, used only if the operating
system is G02 or later.)
Note that the inclusion of MEASFH, measfh on the ADD measfile line
above is required only if the version of the MEASFH file you are using to create
the structured data files differs from that used to collect the system data. In that
case, you must obtain the correct version of the MEASFH file (see Step 5) and
specify it in the command as indicated. measfh is a fully qualified filename
that includes the volume and subvolume.
In the LIST command lines, xx:xx is the time at the beginning of the system
busy period determined in Step 4b and yy:yy is the time at the end of that
period. There should be only one list statement per entity (CPU, PROCESS, and
DISC).
c. When the program has finished creating the structured data files, exit Measure
by entering:
+ EXIT
7. If you want to make changes in the text statements of the GPA output report (see
GPA Analysis Statements in Section 3, Description of GPA Reports) or delete them
entirely, you must do so at this point. If you do not want to make any changes, skip
this step.
To delete the text statements, remove all but the first statement from the file
TUNEDATA. Use EDIT, TEDIT, or SEEDIT to modify the TUNEDATA file.
8. At this point, if you want to run the GPA Optional Report, you can establish
PARAMS to tell GPA to do so. (See the subsection GPA Optional Report
in
Section 3, Description of GPA Reports, for more information.) You can set the
parameters at the TACL prompt, or create an OBEY file with the appropriate
commands in them. The format for these commands is:
7> PARAM classname section-type
