Running GPA
Guardian Performance Analyzer (GPA) Manual135081
2-8
The GPA Procedure
classname specifies the process class the optional report is run for. The
classnames are:
SYSTEM
SUBSYSTEM
PATHWAY
SERVER
TRANSIENT
OTHER
You can select more than one section for the optional report by setting one PARAM
for each class.
section-type specifies the type of output GPA should produce. The options are:
SUMMARY
DETAIL
An optional section is run for each of the PARAMs declared. Setting a PARAM to
any other type than SUMMARY or DETAIL results in the section for that
classname not being produced. When you select DETAIL, the summary section
is included. For example, to run a detail section for the SYSTEM class and a
summary for each of the others, set the following six PARAMS:
8> PARAM SYSTEM DETAIL
9> PARAM SUBSYSTEM SUMMARY
10> PARAM PATHWAY SUMMARY
11> PARAM SERVER SUMMARY
12> PARAM TRANSIENT SUMMARY
13> PARAM OTHER SUMMARY
The default section-type is DETAIL. To refrain from printing the optional
report, specify:
14> PARAM classname NOPRINT
To suppress printing of the textual report only, enter:
15> PARAM TEXT NOPRINT
9. Run GPA to perform the analysis. Set the volume and subvolume to the location of
your measurement data and enter:
16> RUN $SYSTEM.ZGPA.OBEYTUNE
GPA processes the data collected by Measure and generates the reports as well as
the PUPIN and PUPBAK or SCFIN and SCFBAK files. You can direct the reports to
a printer device by using the OUT option with the RUN GPA command in the
OBEYTUNE file. The standard and optional reports appear as separate files in the
spooler.
10. To implement the GPA tuning recommendations (primary disk process and cache
block reallocations) in the PUPIN/SCFIN file, enter:
17> PUP /IN PUPIN/
or
17> SCF /IN SCFIN/
