Deciding Whether to Extend the DCT Limit
Deciding Whether to Extend the DCT Limit
Do not extend the DCT limit if the system is:
•
Running applications that cannot handle unsigned 16-bit ldevs
•
Networked to a remote system that is running applications that access the local
system and that cannot handle unsigned 16-bit ldevs
•
Networked to a system that is running a release of the NonStop Kernel that does
not support unsigned 16-bit ldevs
Before extending the DCT limit, consider:
•
The pattern of process creations and deletions on the system
A system on which the number of named processes varies significantly needs
more leeway with respect to the DCT limit than a system that creates and
maintains a roughly constant number of processes.
•
The likelihood that devices will be dynamically added to the system
If a large number of devices could be added, ensure that DCT usage is not close to
the limit.
•
The number of processors in the system
The greater the number of processors in the system, the easier it is to exceed the
default DCT limit.
