HP SIM for NonStop Manageability
3 Monitoring NonStop Systems in HP SIM
HP SIM lets you monitor your NonStop systems as well as your system resources, such as your
Virtual TapeServer (VTS), M8201R, maintenance switches, NonStop System Consoles (NSC),
Modular Storage Adapter (MSA), iLO, and UPS. You can start OSM Service Connection and OSM
Event Viewer from HP SIM. You can also access NonStop Software Essentials, NonStop I/O
Essentials, NonStop Cluster Essentials, NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials, and Insight Control
Power Management. HP SIM gives you the ability to setup and send either e-mail or text notifications
to yourself when an issue arises on a specific system or server. This chapter discuss the steps and
procedures to do those tasks.
IMPORTANT: SSL must be enabled for HP SIM or any of its plug-in to work. For NonStop J-Series
systems, SSL is enabled by default. For NonStop H-Series and G-Series systems, you must manually
enable SSL.
NonStop-specific Features
HP SIM displays features that are available for NonStop systems and that are not related to any
Essentials product. You can view these features from the All Systems main screen:
The features displayed include:
HS Health status. The HS column displays the overall system health status,
which is determined by the default Hardware Status Polling task and is a
roll up of all the status sources, which can be SNMP, WBEM, HTTP, and
cluster status.
The HS status reflects the OSM system status.
SW The SW column, available for servers only, indicates both the availability
of software updates and if they are critical.
PE NonStop Performance Essentials status. The PE column is only present after
NonStop Performance Essentials is installed.
