8 Monitoring a BackBox Virtual Tape Controller (VTC) in
HP SIM
To monitor an HP BackBox Virtual Tape Controller (VTC) with HP SIM, follow these steps:
1. From a separate CMS, discover your HP Backbox VTC, providing valid credentials for the
device using the discovery steps described in “Discovering a NonStop System” (page 16).
2. Configure e-mail notifications for the HP Backbox VTC as described in “Getting E-mail or Text
Notifications” (page 25).
3. On the CMS, logon to HP SIM and subscribe to WBEM events. From the Options menu, select
Events->Subscribe to WBEM Events.
4. Since the HP Backbox VTC is a Windows operating system, select the appropriate OS and
click View Contents. Select the HP Backbox system that you wish to monitor, click Apply.
5. Verify that the correct target system is selected, then click Next.
