HP SIM for NonStop Manageability

1 Introduction
HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) is the primary/core HP solution for managing HP servers and
storage. For NonStop, HP SIM provides the ability to manage NonStop servers and components
alongside other HP servers and storage, from a single interface. It also works with various HP SIM
plug-in products and HP NonStop Open System Management (OSM) software to provide both
vital and additional, value-add services.
One such service vital to the NonStop environment is remote support services. HP SIM provides
the go-forward solution for remote support services, working with both OSM and HP Insight Remote
Support Advanced (a plug-in for HP SIM) to replace the OSM Notification Director in both
modem-based and HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE) remote support solutions. For more

Another vital service is the installation and management of NonStop server software. NonStop
Software Essentials (another HP SIM plug-in) replaces the DSM/SCM Planner Interface as the
software installation and management tool for all NonStop servers running J-series, H-series, and
G-series software. The DSM/SCM Planner Interface is not supported on 64-bit system consoles
(which includes NonStop system consoles running Windows Server 2008), so the NonStop Software
Essentials interface must be used in place of the DSM/SCM Planner Interface on those consoles.

Insight Remote Support Advanced
HP Insight Remote Support Advanced is the go-forward remote support solution for all NonStop
systems, replacing the OSM Notification director in both modem-based and HP Instant Support

NonStop Software Essentials
NonStop Software Essentials is a plug-in for HP SIM that provides software installation and
management functionality for NonStop servers. NonStop Software Essentials uses DSM/SCM
server software and provides a replacement for the DSM/SCM Planner Interface tasks, as well as
certain Host Maintenance Interface functions, that is more secure, easier to use, and overcomes
other shortcomings of DSM/SCM. NonStop Software Essentials coexists with DSM/SCM; you can
use either NonStop Software Essentials or DSM/SCM for tasks in which there is overlapping

NonStop I/O Essentials
The NonStop I/O Essentials product is a plug-in for HP SIM that provides support for all configuration
and control tasks in the CIP (Cluster I/O Protocols) subsystem for NonStop systems with CLIMs. It
provides a graphical user interface alternative to the command line interfaces of the CLIMCMD
