ENSCRIBE database record manager—an alternative to NonStop SQL for high-
level access to records in a database, used with these allied products:
Data Definition Language (DDL)—a language for defining records and data
items for ENSCRIBE files, and for generating messages
ENABLE program generator—a tool for generating simple OLTP applications
based on ENSCRIBE files
ENFORM query language and report writer—an interactive tool for writing
queries and generating reports based on data from ENSCRIBE files
PATHMAKER online application code generator—a menu-driven tool for
developing and maintaining applications, and which provides a single interface to
other data management products
PATHWAY transaction processing system—a set of tools for developing and
configuring applications, and which includes the following allied software:
SCREEN COBOL compiler—a procedural language compiler used to develop
screen programs that control terminal and workstation displays, accept data
from these devices, and transmit data and requests to server programs
PATHAID interactive screen builder—a screen builder program that
generates source code for screen descriptions based on picture layouts and
display attributes indicated by programmers; the screen descriptions can be
edited, copied directly into screen programs, or stored in screen library files
SCREEN COBOL Utility Program (SCUP)—a utility program used to manage
screen program object libraries
Transaction Monitoring Facility (TMF)—a software product that manages
transactions requested by screen programs to ensure application database
consistency
Remote Duplicate Database Facility (RDF)—a utility that furnishes database
backup by duplicating transactions that occur on one database to an identical copy
of that database on another system
Other products, although not members of the data management set, help support the
OLTP function. For example, the GUARDIAN 90 operating system facilitates
application program execution on all NonStop systems. The EXPAND NonStop
network supports integrated, fault-tolerant networks of up to 255 individual Tandem
systems, making a vast number of hardware and software resources available to
applications. The SAFEGUARD security system protects system or network
components, including disk files, from unauthorized use. To learn more about these
products, see Overview of Tandem Products.
