Integrated data management
A group of applications that use TRANSFER to coordinate their work form a single
TRANSFER application. Using TRANSFER, together with PATHWAY and
EXPAND, your business can satisfy its data management needs by:
Distributing resources at the different locations of the business
For example, you might put parts of a personnel database at locations that have
personnel offices and permit remote access to the database by way of
communication lines.
Distributing the task of data management by function
For example, your firm could define one database to hold financial data, another
to describe the corporate library, another to contain digitized blueprints, and so
on; develop separate applications to manage each database; and distribute parts
of each application, including the data, to suit the company needs.
Using TRANSFER to automate relationships among the applications and among
users of the applications
For example, you could let a user of a manufacturing application request
assembly drawings from a document-control application. A database in
document control could contain the drawings in digitized form; the
document-control application would pull the drawings and return the data.
Finally, an operator in manufacturing could print the drawings on a facsimile
machine.
