TRANSFER Asynchronous Processes
TRANSFER asynchronous processes schedule packages for delivery, route packages to
the appropriate recipients, and deliver packages within the time specified by the sender.
If a network node is unavailable, the processes ensure that packages destined for the
node are delivered as soon as the node becomes available. The TRANSFER
asynchronous processes also cancel packages and arrange for their expiration.
Some TRANSFER asynchronous processes are requesters; others are servers.
Application requesters do not communicate directly with the TRANSFER asynchronous
server processes. To send a package, a requester sends a request to the TRANSFER
Interactive Server, which in turn contacts a TRANSFER asynchronous process. To
deliver a package or notify the sender of an error condition, a TRANSFER
asynchronous requester process sends requests to TISERV. When the package or
notification arrives at the the depot, it can be retrieved by a client or agent for the
correspondent. Figure 2-6 outlines the TRANSFER processes involved in transporting a
package from one application to another.
