PS MAIL
Overview
The PS MAIL 6530 application, which is supplied with TRANSFER, provides a way for
a business to automate its interoffice correspondence. Using the underlying
TRANSFER delivery system, PS MAIL lets correspondents communicate electronically
whether at the same node, at different nodes in an EXPAND network, or—through the
X400 gateway—on other host systems that support X.400 messaging system standards.
PS MAIL correspondents exchange mail that consists of ASCII text. Customers can
tailor PS MAIL applications to handle other types of data as well as ASCII text.
PS MAIL presents a simple alternative to conventional methods of handling interoffice
mail. PS MAIL is efficient because it:
Makes it easy to type and copy outgoing messages and to keep track of incoming
mail
Provides routing that is faster and more reliable than manual procedures and surface
mail
Allows correspondents to file material for repeated use and to assemble packages
without retyping text
Offers convenient ways to locate mail that is already filed and to retrieve material
Allows a business to organize correspondents into special interest groups
Group members have access to electronic bulletin boards where they can read
messages filed in group folders and file items for other members to read. In
addition, each special interest group maintains group distribution lists that can be
used by all members.
Correspondents need no technical expertise to compose, send, receive, and file
packages. PS MAIL 6530 correspondents use a Tandem display terminal and issue
requests by filling out screens and pressing appropriate function keys. PS MAIL
presents information to the correspondent by displaying it on the screen or on a printer.
In addition to the PS MAIL 6530 application supplied with TRANSFER, two other
versions of PS MAIL are available:
PS MAIL 3270 is designed for the IBM 3270 family of terminals. Like PS MAIL
6530, it provides a set of screens that let you perform various mail functions.
Across the bottom of each screen is a list of tasks, with corresponding function keys,
from which to choose.
PS MAIL TTY is designed for TTY terminals; it lets you perform various mail
functions by typing commands at your keyboard.
With PS MAIL, users can also exchange documents from personal computers.
