Introduction to TRANSFER Delivery System

The Electronic Desk PS MAIL
3-2 109426—Introduction to TRANSFER Delivery System
Besides being an effective product for almost any business, PS MAIL acts as a model
application in a TRANSFER installation. To application designers, PS MAIL offers an
example of how to use TRANSFER for business applications. For people involved in
application management and operations, PS MAIL is a good pilot application for
developing operating procedures and practicing resource management.
The Electronic Desk
The correspondent sees the depot as an electronic desk. The depot contains:
A TRANSFER INBOX folder in which PS MAIL files a correspondent’s incoming
mail
A TRANSFER WASTEBASKET folder where PS MAIL files messages a
correspondent deletes from other folders
The WASTEBASKET is automatically emptied at the end of a PS MAIL session.
A TRANSFER OUTLOG folder where PS MAIL automatically files a copy of each
message a correspondent sends
Messages stay in the OUTLOG for the length of time set by the folder’s retention
time.
Correspondent-created folders for storing messages
Folders are private; the contents cannot be read by others.
As illustrated in Figure 3-1, when a PS MAIL message arrives in the INBOX, the
recipient can decide whether to keep it in another folder or to discard it in the
WASTEBASKET.
