Introduction to TRANSFER Delivery System
Installing TRANSFER The TRANSFER Environment
4-2 109426—Introduction to TRANSFER Delivery System
Installing TRANSFER
TRANSFER includes the procedures that you use to install your delivery system. Your
TRANSFER system comprises Base TRANSFER and other optional components, such
as a PS MAIL application, the X400 gateway, or the Queue Manager.
Base TRANSFER provides the set of processes that control communications within the
TRANSFER environment and data files that contain information TRANSFER needs to
service requests for package delivery. The administrative client, ADMIN, and the
system management client, TMANAGER, are also part of Base TRANSFER. Base
TRANSFER is the only component required for a TRANSFER delivery system.
The phases of an installation include:
■ Definition
Definition uses the system descriptions you provide in Define files to generate files
that initialize data files, configure the PATHWAY system, and start and stop the
PATHWAY system. Definition allows you to install a new system or new
components in an existing system. Definition is performed by definition
programs—one for each component you include in your TRANSFER system.
■ Initialization
Initialization uses files generated by the definition programs to initialize data files
for system components. To initialize components, you run the XCNFG program.
■ Start
Start uses files generated by the definition programs to start your TRANSFER
system by performing a cool start on the PATHWAY system. The XCOOL
program starts all components in the PATHWAY system.
■ Stop
Stop uses files generated by the definition programs to stop your TRANSFER
system. The XSTOP program shuts down the PATHWAY system and stops all
TRANSFER processes that continue after the shutdown.
■ Redefinition
Redefinition uses the system descriptions you provide in the Define files to generate
files that configure, start, and stop the PATHWAY system. Redefinition allows for
modifying definitions of existing TRANSFER components.
A TRANSFER system definition that is generated from Define files cannot provide the
perfect definition for all TRANSFER systems. You might need to change configured
PATHWAY objects or add clients. To make these changes, you can create your own
customized files.
TMF must be running before you install TRANSFER.
