Administering TRANSFER with ADMIN
The ADMIN application, which is included with TRANSFER, provides a set of screens
that allow system administrators to perform administrative tasks for correspondents,
interest groups, folders, and distribution lists. The application also lets correspondents
change parts of their own profiles.
The functions available in ADMIN fall into several categories:
■ Administering correspondents
A system administrator can add correspondents and interest groups to and delete
them from the local node and can list the names of correspondents at any node.
■ Administering depot profiles
A system administrator can read and change any correspondent or group profile,
assign correspondent privileges, and assign agents to depots.
■ Administering distribution lists
A system administrator can create, delete, read, and modify the contents of
distribution lists and can read the names of all lists that belong to a correspondent.
■ Administering folders
A system administrator can create and delete folders and read the names of folders
that belong to a correspondent.
■ Administering depot storage
A system administrator can collect statistics on how much storage is being used for
each depot on the system. The depot statistics facility takes a snapshot of the
amount of disk storage in a depot at a specific time, providing a byte count of item
data, external objects, and distribution-list records.
■ Administering the system
A system administrator can perform certain tasks for controlling the TRANSFER
system, such as setting the time limits for messages sent from the node, specifying
whether external objects are enabled, and indicating the default national language
and character set for the system. ADMIN includes screens for changing the three
priority levels used in sending PS MAIL messages and for listing the correspondent
names for all sessions that are currently in progress.
ADMIN can be either accessed by a user-developed SCREEN COBOL module that
interfaces with PS MAIL 6530 and PS MAIL 3270 or run as a standalone PATHWAY
program.
