Developing TRANSFER Applications
Overview
TRANSFER is ideal for a variety of applications that require package delivery,
especially across a network, or that need transactions to be staged over time, such as:
Exchanging information among people; for example, interoffice mail
Delivering packages to multiple destinations; for example, wire service releases,
corporate newsletters, or surveys
Moving among different kinds of applications; for example, communicating
between a manufacturing system and a purchasing system
Routing paperwork or tracking resources; for example, adding notations to a
medical record or following a part through its manufacture and service
Scheduling future transactions or long transactions; for example, printing reports
When you develop a TRANSFER application, your application program need not be
concerned with certain critical operations that TRANSFER takes care of. TRANSFER
provides for:
Monitoring the network for availability and retrying a transaction until a remote
node becomes available
Arranging for events to occur at particular times
Handling the routing of packages to multiple recipients throughout a network
Ensuring the reliable delivery of packages, even in the event of system failures
Preventing duplicate deliveries to one recipient
TRANSFER further simplifies the application designer’s task by managing its own
database and by providing economical ways to store and organize correspondent names,
profiles, and data.
