Introduction to TRANSFER Delivery System—109426 Glossary-1
Glossary
ADMIN application. A TRANSFER application that allows administrators to perform
administrative tasks for correspondents, interest groups, distribution lists, folders, and
the TRANSFER system. ADMIN can be either accessed by a user-developed SCREEN
COBOL module that interfaces with PS MAIL 6530 and PS MAIL 3270 or run as a
standalone PATHWAY program.
Agent. A SCREEN COBOL program or PATHWAY server class that is automatically
invoked by a TRANSFER asynchronous process to handle packages received at a depot.
Multiple agents can be assigned to a depot to take different actions for different types of
packages. The same agent can be assigned to more than one depot.
Audited file. A data file that is flagged for auditing by the Transaction Monitoring Facility
(TMF); auditing is the monitoring of transactions in preparation for recovery.
Base TRANSFER. A TRANSFER component that provides the set of processes that control
communications within the TRANSFER environment and data files that contain
information TRANSFER needs to service requests for package delivery. The
administrative client, ADMIN, and the system management client, TMANAGER, are
also part of Base TRANSFER. Base TRANSFER is the only component required for a
TRANSFER delivery system.
Bulletin board. A folder for an interest group. Group members can read items in the group
bulletin board folder and save items to the bulletin board for other members to read.
Client. A requester program that provides the interface between correspondents and
TRANSFER. The client directs requests to the TRANSFER Interactive Server. Every
TRANSFER application requires at least one client.
Correspondent. A sender or receiver of information within the TRANSFER system. A
correspondent can be a person, an interest group, a process, or a device.
Correspondent profile. A depot profile that describes a correspondent to TRANSFER. The
profile provides default values for package-delivery parameters and operational
parameters used when the correspondent has a session in progress.
Courier. An application that provides electronic-forms processing, including automatic
routing and manager approvals.
Define file. A file that contains keyword parameters and values that define a component of a
TRANSFER system.
Delivery. The TRANSFER action of placing a package in the INBOX folder of a recipient.
