Introduction to TRANSFER Delivery System—109426 Glossary-3
Item. A collection of data such as text, ASCII data, binary data, or some other type defined
by the application. A simple item is an item with no other items connected to it; a
component item is an item that is attached to a tree—other items that each can be simple
or component.
Local correspondent. A correspondent at the same node.
Mail profile. A depot profile that contains parameters used during mail sessions initiated by
the correspondent.
Member. An entity named in a distribution list. The member name can be the name of a
correspondent, of an interest group, or of another distribution list.
Node. A Tandem computer system that is part of a Tandem network of computer systems. A
node address is designated by a symbol before the name (for example, @NY).
NonStop SQL. A relational database management system that promotes efficient online
access to large distributed databases.
Object. A generic term used to refer to entities managed by TRANSFER. Objects can be
correspondents, depots, distribution lists, folders, items, packages, and profiles.
OUTLOG folder. A special folder, automatically created for each correspondent, where PS
MAIL automatically files a copy of each message a correspondent sends. Messages stay
in the OUTLOG for the length of time configured, usually 24 hours.
Package. A collection of information that can be sent from one correspondent to other
correspondents. A package contains a package header and optional components.
Package header. An item that indicates the sender, recipient list, priority, and delivery and
expiration timeframes of a package.
PATHWAY. The Tandem software that supplies the programs and operating environment
required for developing and running online transaction processing applications.
Pattern. A partial name entered when requesting a list of correspondent, folder, or
distribution list names. A question mark (?) indicates that any single character can
appear in that position; an asterisk (*) indicates that zero or more characters can appear
in the position. Only those names that match the pattern are listed. Contrast with Wild-
card name.
Print-on-delivery agent. An agent that automatically sends incoming packages to a specified
printer; supplied by Tandem.
Process. A running program.
