Profile Glossary
Glossary-4 109426—Introduction to TRANSFER Delivery System
Profile. A collection of attributes that describes an individual depot, a group depot, or the
system as a whole. Each depot has a TRANSFER correspondent profile and a mail
profile. Any depot can also include one or more agent profiles and user-supplied
profiles. In TRANSFER the attributes of the depot specified in the correspondent or
group profiles are limited by the attributes that control the system, which are configured
for the TRANSFER system-control profiles by the system manager.
PS MAIL 3270. A TRANSFER client that enables users to exchange mail electronically in a
full-screen mode on the IBM 3270 family of terminals.
PS MAIL 6530. A TRANSFER client that enables users to exchange mail electronically in a
full-screen mode on Tandem 6530 terminals or compatible terminals.
PS MAIL TTY. A TRANSFER client that enables users to exchange mail electronically on
conversational terminals.
PUBLIC group. A special interest group that TRANSFER automatically creates and
maintains at each node. All local correspondents are, by default, members of the
PUBLIC group and have shared access to the PUBLIC folders and distribution lists at
that node.
Queue Manager. An optional queueing facility that lets requesters add an entry in a queue
and retrieve an entry from a queue for processing. Queue Manager can be used
independently of TRANSFER.
Recipient. A correspondent to whom a package is delivered.
Recipient list. The names of correspondents and distribution lists that are to receive a
particular package. The recipient list is an attribute of the package and applies only to
the package for which the recipient list is created. Contrast with Distribution list.
Recipient name. A correspondent name, interest group name, or distribution list name that
appears in the recipient list for a particular package.
Registration. An action by which a correspondent is made known to the TRANSFER system
with a unique correspondent name and password; a depot is automatically created for
that correspondent during registration.
Remote correspondent. A correspondent at a different node in the network.
Requester. See Requester process.
Requester process. A process that executes application-program object code and sends
requests to a server; synonymous with Requester.
SCREEN COBOL. A procedural language that is used to define and control terminal
displays.
Sending. The submittal of a package for delivery by TRANSFER.
