Glossary-6 109426—Introduction to TRANSFER Delivery System
TRANSFER delivery system. An information delivery system that enables organizations to
move and manage information efficiently within a single Tandem system or across a
network of distributed systems. TRANSFER supports communications between people,
input-output devices, and processes.
TRANSFER Interactive Server (TISERV). A TRANSFER server that starts and
terminates sessions, services item- and package-handling requests, and implements
administrative requests.
TRANSFER name directory. A directory of all names of correspondents, distribution lists,
and folders defined at the local node. TRANSFER uses this directory whenever a local
name is supplied by a correspondent.
Transporting. The TRANSFER action of sending a package to a remote node for local
delivery at that node.
User application. An application that a user develops and supplies to run on a TRANSFER
system.
Vacation agent. An agent that handles incoming packages when the correspondent is
unavailable for an extended time; supplied by Tandem.
WASTEBASKET folder. A special folder that is automatically created for each session
started by a correspondent. When a session is terminated, the WASTEBASKET folder
for that session is emptied and deleted.
Wild-card name. A correspondent, distribution list, or folder name that includes a question
mark (?) to indicate that any single character can appear in that position or an asterisk
(*) to indicate that zero or more characters can appear in the position. A wild-card name
identifies only one name. Contrast with Pattern.
X400 gateway. An application that allows Tandem users to exchange packages with users on
other host systems that support the X.400 messaging-system standards.
