Glossary-4
filter
filter. In Event Management Service (EMS), a file containing a list of criteria against which
incoming event messages can be compared. The messages are allowed to pass (all
criteria met) or not pass (one or more criteria failed). In the ServerNet LAN systems
access (SLSA) subsystem, a filter provides a logical mechanism where frames received
from the local area network (LAN) can be sorted and then delivered to a particular
client.
forwarding distributor. An Event Management Service (EMS)
distributor process that sends
selected event messages to an EMS collector on another network node.
gateway. A special-purpose, dedicated computer that attaches to two or more networks and
routes packets from one to the other. In particular, an Internet gateway routes IP
datagrams among the networks to which it connects. Gateways route packets to other
gateways until they can be delivered to the final destination directly across one physical
network. The term is loosely applied to any machine that transfers information from one
network to another, as in mail gateway.

INFO. A nonsensitive command
that displays the attributes of a NonStop™ IPX/SPX object.
Information Xchange Facility (IXF). A NonStop™ Himalaya S-series software product that
provides file transfer support between a NonStop™ Himalaya S-series server and IBM-
compatible PCs.
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). An international industry group
that develops standards for many areas of electrical engineering and computers.
interactive command. In the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF)
, a command entered by a
human operator rather than by a program. See also programmatic command.
Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX). The Novell protocol for connectionless,
internetwork-wide packet delivery. See also connectionless service
.

.
IPXMGR process. A NonStop™ Himalaya S-series process that provides the NonStop™
IPX/SPX subsystem with an interface to the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) and
supports Distributed Systems Management (DSM) functions.
IPXPROTO process. A NonStop™ Himalaya S-series process that supports the following
protocols on the NonStop™ IPX/SPX subsystem: Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX)
,
NetWare Core Protocol (NCP), Routing Information Protocol (RIP), Sequenced Packet
Exchange (SPX), and Service Advertising Protocol (SAP).
