noncritical event
noncritical event. A Distributed Systems Management (DSM) event that is not crucial to
system or network operations. Contrast critical event.
nonsensitive command. A Subsystem Control Facility (SCF)
command that can be issued by
any user or program allowed access to the target subsystem—that is, a command on
which the subsystem imposes no further security restrictions. For NonStop™ Himalaya
S-series data communications subsystems, the nonsensitive commands are all those that
cannot change the state or configuration of objects (usually informational commands).
Contrast sensitive command
.
NonStop™ Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) Server. A NonStop™ Himalaya S-series
software product that processes ODBC requests. It replaces the Compaq Structured
Query Language (SQL) Server Gateway product.
NonStop™ Transaction Services/MP (NonStop™ TS/MP). A NonStop™ Himalaya S-
series application that configures and manages online transaction applications.
NOS. See network operating system (NOS)
.
nowait mode. In NonStop™ Kernel file-system operations and in some Access Control
Server (ACS) operations, the mode in which the called procedure initiates an I/O
operation but does not wait for it to complete before returning control to the caller. In
order to make the called procedure wait for the completion of the operation, the
application calls a separate procedure. Contrast wait mode
.
object. In general NonStop™ Himalaya S-series usage, one or more of the devices, lines,
processes, and files in a NonStopHimalaya S-series subsystem; any entity subject to
independent reference or control by one or more subsystems. In Distributed Systems
Management (DSM) usage, an entity subject to independent reference and control by a
subsystem: for example, the IPXMGR process $ZMGR or the IPXPROTO process
$ZN0.
object-name template. In Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
, a name that stands for
more than one object. An object-name template includes one or more wildcard
characters, which stand for any possible character(s) in a search string or in a name
applying to multiple objects. In DSM, a question mark (?) indicates a single character,
and an asterisk (*) indicates zero, one, or more consecutive characters.
object type. In Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
, the category of objects to which a
specific object belongs: for example, the IPXMGR process has the object type
SUBSYS, and the IPXPROTO process has the object type PROCESS. A subsystem
identifies a set of object types by the objects it manages. The Subsystem Control Facility
(SCF) interfaces to NonStop™ Himalaya S-series data communications subsystems use
standard keywords to identify the types.
ODBC. See NonStop™ Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) Server
and Open Database
Connectivity (ODBC).
ODBC Server. See NonStop™ Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) Server
and Open
Database Connectivity (ODBC).
