Configuration Quick Start
This section outlines the basic tasks you perform to install and configure the Compaq
NonStop™ IPX/SPX subsystem. For an overview of Novell NetWare LAN and
NonStop™ IPX/SPX architecture, see Section 2, Introduction to NonStop™ IPX/SPX.
Before you use this quick start section, you should refer to NetWare and NonStop™
System Requirements on page 2-16 to make sure that your NetWare environment is
supported by NonStop™ IPX/SPX and that you have the necessary system hardware and
software installed.

Task 1: Plan Your Configuration
This section describes some of the decisions you need to make before you install and
configure NonStop™ IPX/SPX.
1. Which NetWare users need access to the NonStop™ Himalaya S-series server and
which NonStop™ services do they need?
Each workstation on the LAN that will access the NonStop™ host needs to have the
PC6530 Terminal Emulator (PCT) or Compaq Tandem Terminal Emulator (TTE)
software installed that supports NonStop™ IPX/SPX. Each user must have a user ID
and password on the NonStop™ Himalaya S-series server. Appendix A, Protocol
Interfaces and Services for NonStop™ IPX/SPX, describes the services on the
NonStop™ Himalaya S-series server that are provided to NetWare workstation
users.
2. How many connections must be supported by the IPXPROTO process?
Each workstation session that will access a service on the host uses a connection. If
a workstation user runs multiple sessions to the host [for example, both Open
Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Telserv], multiple connections are required.
Each IPXPROTO process can support up to approximately 1,100 connections; SPX
connections are likely to be the bulk of these connections. By default, each
IPXPROTO process supports up to 300 SPX connections; you can increase this limit
when you create or alter an IPXPROTO process through the Subsystem Control
Facility (SCF).
