Task 3: Configure the NonStop™ Server for
NetWare Users
Task 3: Configure the NonStop Server for NetWare Users
1. Configure user IDs and passwords for the workstations on the NetWare LAN that
will be accessing the NonStop™ host.
2. Configure the services on the system that will be available to workstations on the
NetWare LAN. (These services are described in Appendix A, Protocol Interfaces
and Services for NonStop™ IPX/SPX.) For some services, you must install and
configure software on the workstation. The following describes the configuration of
the services on the system and on the workstations; see the appropriate product
manual for more complete information.
For Open Database Connectivity (ODBC):
1. Configure the Structured Query Language (SQL) Communications
Subsystem (SCS). Create an entry in the SERVICES file for the ODBC
server that names NonStop™ IPX/SPX as the transport. In the SCS
configuration file, set the iop-devicename parameter to the name of the
IPXPROTO process that the ODBC server will use, and set the network-
name parameter to the entry in the SERVICES file.
2. Start SCS by running a TACL macro.
3. Install the ODBC driver (TDMSRVR.DLL) on the client workstation. Copy
the RUNME file from the NonStop™ Himalaya S-series host to the PC, then
run the RUNME.EXE program on the PC to extract the compressed files.
Run the SETUP program to set up the client workstation.
4. Configure the client workstation to use the ODBC Server for SQL queries.
For more information on installing and configuring ODBC, see the NonStop™
ODBC Server Installation and Management Manual.
For Telserv:
1. Start the Telserv process by using the following startup parameter:
>PARAM ztnt^transport^process^name $ipxproto_name
where ipxproto_name is the name of the IPXPROTO process that the
Telserv process is to use. When an IPXPROTO process is the transport
process, the default value for the listen port/socket number is 0x7000.
Use the SCF STATUS SERVER command to verify that the Telserv process
is registered with the IPXPROTO process:
>SCF STATUS SERVER $ipxproto_name.#SAP
2. You can use SCF to add windows to the Telserv process. A window is a
pseudoterminal that allows a client to send or receive data from Telserv. For
more information, refer to the SCF Reference Manual for Telserv.
3. Install Telnet software on the client workstation.
4. Configure the client workstation to use the Compaq Telserv server.
