Compaq terminal emulators allow DOS-based or Windows-based workstations on a
NetWare LAN to emulate Compaq 6530 terminals when connected to an operating
system running NonStop™ IPX/SPX. Compaq provides the following terminal emulator
software for the NetWare workstations:
PC6530 Terminal Emulator (PCT) for MS-DOS workstations.
Outside View with Compaq Tandem Terminal Emulator (TTE) for Microsoft
Windows workstations. Outside View with TTE runs within Windows and includes
a graphical user interface (GUI) that allows the user to run multiple workstation
application programs simultaneously and display each application’s output in a
separate window.
PCT and Outside View with TTE enable workstations on the LAN to access programs,
files, or devices on the operating system. Figure 2-5
illustrates the terminal emulation
configurations for workstations.
By emulating a 6530 terminal, workstations on the NetWare LAN can access
applications on the operating system. Configuration parameters in the terminal
emulators allow you to select certain workstation options, such as color mapping and
cursor type.
When the NetWare workstation is connected to a NonStop™ Himalaya S-series host,
you can also access the other NonStop™ Himalaya S-series services on an operating
system.
You can print files to printers that are connected to the NonStop™ Himalaya S-
series server or to NetWare printers. (For more information on printing to NetWare
printers, see NetWare Print Services on page A-10.)
