Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) Interface
Figure 3-1 shows the SCF, SCP, and EMS management interfaces to NonStop
IPX/SPX.
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) Interface
SCF provides an interface for interactively managing NonStop™ Himalaya S-series data
communications subsystems. SCF lets you configure, control, and monitor subsystem
objects manually or by using OBEY files. The response to a command indicates whether
the specified action has been successfully completed.
Subsystem Control Point (SCP) Interface
SCP is the management process for all NonStop™ Himalaya S-series data
communications subsystems. SCF commands are sent to an instance of the SCP process,
which in turn sends the commands to the manager processes of the target subsystems.
(For NonStop™ IPX/SPX, the manager process is IPXMGR.) SCP also processes a few
commands itself. It provides security features, version compatibility, and support for
tracing and for applications implemented as process pairs. SCP is always named
$ZNET.
Event Management Service (EMS) Interface
Event messages are generated for significant events, such as a failure to establish
communications or a backup process takeover. EMS collects, logs, and distributes event
messages that provide information to help you monitor the network environment,
analyze failures, and recognize and handle critical problems. You can filter (select) the
types of event messages to be displayed, printed, or stored.
Event messages are viewable online through the TSM Event Management Service
(EMS) Event Viewer as described in TSM EMS Event Viewer online help
on page xv.
See Appendix B, Event Messages for NonStop™ IPX/SPX
, for a description of the
event messages issued by the NonStop™ IPX/SPX subsystem.
