Software Management and Installation Products
TIM User Documentation Collection
The User Documentation collection contains software and hardware manuals for
NonStop servers and for the products that run on them.
The Release and Migration Information Folder
Of particular interest in terms of evaluating and managing RVUs and SPRs are the
manuals in the “Release and Migration Information” folder. For each RVU, these
manuals:
•
Serve as a high-level overview of new and changed function delivered in the RVU
and include information on new products or enhancements to existing products
•
Contain information about the impact of the RVU on applications, databases,
networks, installation, configuration, operations, and system management
•
List which products are new, obsolete, or not yet available, in addition to product
versions that are not yet available for a specific RVU
•
Provide an overview of the installation activities and changes for a planned RVU,
including upgrade and fallback information
See Release and Migration Information Manuals on page 2-5 for a description of the
manuals in the “Release and Migration Information” folder.
Software Management and Installation Products
Distributed System Management/Software Configuration
Manager (DSM/SCM)
The DSM/SCM product provides for the centralized planning, management, and
installation of software on distributed (target) systems. DSM/SCM runs on a central
(host) system and performs the tasks of receiving, archiving, configuring, and
packaging software for target sites. It also runs on each target system, where its
primary function is to place the software received from the central site.
The DSM/SCM functions of particular interest to managing RVUs and SPRs include:
•
The ability to select specific products from software stored in the DSM/SCM
archive to create a new software configuration based on a previous configuration,
in which changed products are replaced by the new versions
•
The ability to scan through RVU documents and softdocs to view product highlights
and installation information and to find the dependencies for a given SPR
For more information, see the DSM/SCM User’s Guide.
