Software Release Management Documentation
Software Release Management Documentation
The following manuals and documents are available to help you evaluate new software
release version updates and the impact of upgrading from one RVU to another.
Release and Migration Information Manuals
The manuals in the TIM User Documentation collection’s “Release and Migration
Information” folder provide an overview of each RVU and describe the installation
activities and changes for the RVU.
G-Series Highlights and Migration Planning Guide
For G05.00 through G06.16 RVUs, this guide provides an overview of each RVU;
summarizes the principal new features and products of the RVU; and describes how
migrating or upgrading to a G-series RVU affects installation, configuration, operations,
system management, maintenance, and the migration of applications, networks, and
database files. For G06.17 and forward RVUs, use the Interactive Upgrade Guide to
obtain this information.
Interactive Upgrade Guide
This guide simplifies the planning of software and hardware upgrades. Select the
products and RVUs you use, and the Interactive Upgrade Guide displays customized
upgrade instructions and lists of new features.
G06.xx Release Version Update Compendium
The compendium for an RVU provides categorized information about new features,
migration issues, and fallback considerations for that RVU. It describes how upgrading
to the RVU affects installation, configuration, operations, system management,
maintenance, applications, networks, and databases. It also includes references and
sources for detailed upgrade planning.
G06.xx Software Installation and Upgrade Guide
For G04.00 and later G-series RVUs, the G06.xx Software Installation and Upgrade
Guide for a particular RVU gives instructions for upgrading to the RVU and for
recommended or required software configuration changes.
Site Update Tape (SUT) Documentation
All the product version updates for a release are stored in distribution subvolumes
(DSVs) on a site update tape (SUT). A DSV contains the object files and executables
for a product, in addition to the product softdoc.
The DSV for the RLSEDOC product (T9230), sometimes referred to as the release
subvolume, contains the Content File and README File for the RVU as a whole.
