Evaluating SPRs for Special Consideration
Evaluating SPRs for Special Consideration
SPRs for Special Consideration
As part of your planning for the installation of a new system or an upgrade to a different
RVU, you should evaluate additional individual SPRs that are usable with that RVU.
You might decide to install SPRs that fix problems that you determine present a
significant risk in your computing environment.
Normally, many potentially relevant SPRs are issued because of the large number of
products in an RVU. SPRs for Special Consideration lists are a set of SPRs that you
should evaluate first. HP believes that most customers should evaluate these SPRs for
their relevancy, either to prevent potential outages or to provide significant operational
benefits.
An SPRs for Special Consideration list is meant to be used when upgrading to a new
RVU, not during ongoing SPR maintenance. After you have evaluated and installed
any of these SPRs for a specific RVU, you do not have to review the same revision of
the list again. Unrestricted SPRs in the list will be included or incorporated in a future
RVU, as will any restricted SPR upgraded to unrestricted or superseded by an
unrestricted SPR.
Evaluate each Special Consideration SPR on a case-by-case basis. The risk of
encountering problems depends on various conditions present in your specific system
and application environment. In general, HP believes the risk is very low that these
SPRs introduce problems more serious than the ones they prevent. Therefore, if you
have not already installed these SPRs, or superseding ones, HP recommends you
consider doing so if, after evaluating them for your computing environment, you
conclude that they offer sufficient benefit. When evaluating Special Consideration
SPRs, be aware that they are not integration tested with the RVU.
You do not need to (and normally should not) install every SPR that appears in the
Special Consideration list. If the defects corrected or the features provided are of little
concern to you, you can ignore the SPR. If you are in doubt about whether to install a
Special Consideration SPR, call your local Global Customer Support Center (GCSC).
After evaluating the SPRs for Special Consideration for your RVU, you should also
evaluate other SPRs that are usable with it, as time and resources allow. In particular,
evaluate those SPRs that fix defects that could result in an outage or other significant
problem (see Evaluating Outage Prevention Notifications on page 3-3 and Evaluating
SPR Introduction Documents (SIDs) on page 3-5).
