Task 4: Research Additional SPRs for the RVU
Step 1: Determine Which SPRs Are Important to You
Between the time an RVU is first shipped and the time you install it, additional SPRs
usable with the RVU might be issued. These guidelines can help you determine which
of these SPRs to install.
Step 2: Evaluate Which SPRs to Consider for Further
Research
Based on the selection criteria from Step 1, evaluate the SPRs by using the
procedures described in Section 3, Evaluating Software Changes:
•
Evaluating SPRs for Special Consideration on page 3-9
•
Evaluating Outage Prevention Notifications on page 3-3
•
Evaluating SPR Introduction Documents (SIDs) on page 3-5
•
Research whether any additional SPRs can be used with the RVU (see
“Researching SPRs That Are Usable With a Release” in the Scout for NonStop
Servers User’s Guide).
Select the SPRs you need to research in more detail to judge their benefit and risk for
your particular circumstances. Study all the documented information on the SPRs of
interest, including superseded and requisite SPRs, to determine dependencies and to
compare the SPRs with your computing environment.
As you review the SPRs, make a list of the SPRs that you want to install in addition to
the new RVU. An example is:
Effort Level Procedures
Least Review SPRs for Special Consideration and SPRs cited in Outage Prevention
Notification (OPN) Hotstuff messages.
Medium Also review additional SPRs usable with your RVU based on criteria cited in the
SPR Introduction Document (SID). Such criteria might include the SPR having an
assessment of “Install promptly to avoid critical problems” or “Consider installing
to avoid possible outage.”
Most In addition to the previous items, review additional SPRs usable with the RVU.
