Task 5: Evaluate Requisite SPRs
Step 3: Check to See if Any SPRs Have Been Superseded
For each SPR on your “additional SPRs” list, use Scout for NonStop Servers to
determine if the SPR has been superseded. If it has, decide which of the alternatives is
best for your circumstances.
Task 5: Evaluate Requisite SPRs
You need to research the requisite SPRs for both the pending “want to keep” SPRs
currently installed on your system and any additional SPRs you have chosen to install,
such as those from the SPRs for Special Consideration list. For more information, see
Evaluating Requisite SPRs on page 3-12.
If you are using Scout for NonStop Servers, you can submit a search request for
requisite SPRs, as described in the Scout for NonStop Servers User’s Guide.
If you are ever in doubt as to whether an SPR is usable with an RVU, contact your
local GCSC or service provider for help.
Task 6: Evaluate the Impact of Upgrading to the New RVU
Read these documents, using your impact list as a reference:
•
Manuals in the TIM User Documentation collection’s “Release and Migration
Information” folder
•
README file for the RVU (in the TIM Support collection)
•
Softdocs for products you are interested in that have new or changed product
versions in the new RVU
Use this information to identify all migration and installation impacts and to develop a
detailed plan to upgrade to the RVU. Your plan should describe exactly what you have
to do, including a fallback plan, in addition to listing the SPRs and hardware you need
to order.
Task 7: Obtain Needed SPRs
If you do not already have copies of the SPRs, obtain them through Scout for NonStop
Servers or contact your local GCSC or service provider.
Obtaining SPRs Through Scout for NonStop Servers
When you have decided which SPRs you need, you can either download them directly
to your workstation or request tape delivery (see the Scout for NonStop Servers User’s
Guide for details).
Note. Be sure each SPR is placed in a subvolume containing only the files delivered in the
SPR DSV and no others. Otherwise, DSC/SCM, for example, might try to include files that do
not belong to the SPR.
