Managing Software Changes—427169-005
1-1
1 Release Management Overview
HP periodically makes available collections of new and revised versions of its software
products called release version updates (RVUs). RVUs consist of software object
modules; data files containing information such as configuration data, error text, and
examples; and the documentation for the product revisions, in addition to a set of
documentation for the overall RVU. Between RVUs, HP makes available time-critical
fixes when required.
Minimizing the impact on system and application availability when installing a new
release version update or software product revision requires an understanding of the
software release process, the change notification process, and software management
tools and procedures.

TRM2000 Release Model
The TRM2000 release model defines how HP NonStop operating system products are
revised and distributed. This release model:
•
Separates the delivery of special defect repair (delivered as time-critical fixes) from
the delivery of routine software product maintenance (delivered as planned product
maintenance in the next scheduled release version update or Independent Product
update)
•
Allows new features to be introduced in RVUs that run in production environments
without reducing the stability of those environments
•
Ensures that any new feature added to a release version update does not result in
migration issues
