Software Products
Software Products
A software product consists of one or more product versions (PVs) which are
composed of product version updates (PVUs). Only PVUs are distributed.
Product Identifiers
Product Number
A set of product version updates that share the same software component identifier
(Tnnnn).
Product Version (PV)
A specific variant of a software product that typically introduces significant change. A
PV usually contains all the functions and fixes previously made available for the same
product component, except those that have been formally declared obsolete or that are
not applicable to the RVU environments on which the product is usable.
A PV consists of PVUs, all of which share the same product version identifier
(TnnnnVer). For example:
•
T9050D46 identifies the D46 version of the HP NonStop operating system
•
T7050G06 identifies the G06 version of the Safeguard software product
When an initial product version is created, the two-digit number is set to 00. After that,
the two-digit number is incremented by one when a new product version is created; for
example, T1084G05.
Product Version Update (PVU)
A product version update (PVU) is the normal delivery method for new product features
and defect repair. PVUs are distributed as SPRs and make up the release version
update (RVU) delivered on a SUT.
A PVU is always part of a particular product version set and is either an initial PVU or a
successive PVU.
In some contexts, PVU IDs consist of only eight characters, so the format of a PVU is
expressed as TnnnnXnn if it is an initial PVU (such as T9050G06) and as Tnnnnaaa if
it is a successive PVU (such as T9050ANK). You might also see the format
T9050G06^ANK in some documents or code.
