Initial and Successive PVUs Example
Independent Products
An Independent Product (IP) is independent from the standard software release and
delivery process and is generally delivered on media separate from that of other
NonStop operating system software. Independent Products ship when ready, with no
dependency on the standard software release and delivery process.
You order an IP as a separate module (or set of modules) and, with proper attention to
requisite software requirements, apply it into any of the RVU environments on which it
is usable. (An IP comes with documentation that explains the requisite software
environment compatible with the IP.) For more information on Independent Products,
see Appendix E, Independent Products Policy.
Software Product Revisions (SPRs)
A change to a software product is a software product revision (SPR).
Most SPRs are issued with a release version update as a routinely scheduled product
update; these are planned product maintenance (PPM) SPRs. SPRs issued between
release version updates to correct defects are time-critical fix (TCF) SPRs.
There are cases when an SPR cannot be created to apply to an earlier RVU because
of a technological limitation. In such a case, you might be given a workaround or be
asked to move to a more current RVU where an SPR can be applied.
SPRs are identified by the product number to which the SPR applies, plus a three-
letter PVU identifier. PVU identifiers are incremented from the first issuance of the
product number (such as T9576), regardless of the product version. That is, PVU
identifiers are not reset to AAA when a new product version is released, nor do PVU
identifiers indicate any sort of sequencing of the SPRs.
HP notifies customers of the availability of unrestricted time-critical fix SPRs through
ExpressNotice by means of a Software Revision Notification that explains the
applicability of the defect repairs to RVUs that are currently available.
