Release Series
A new release series designates a major architectural change from the previous
release series. A release series consists of release versions (RVs) and release version
updates (RVUs).
The release series identifier is a letter that is incremented for each new release series.
Release Version
A new release version (RV) is created when:
New function requires you to perform some special migration actions even if you
choose not to use the new function.
Moving to the next RVU requires revalidating your applications (performing
comprehensive acceptance testing).
The accumulation of unavoidable migration tasks or risk represent a migration
issue.
Generally, new RVs are created at most every two to three years.
Release Version Update (RVU)
A release version update (RVU) is a collection of integration-tested software product
revisions delivered on a site update tape (SUT). An RVU is the normal delivery method
for both new features and defect repair. In most cases, you do not need to revalidate
your applications before installing an RVU on your production systems.
The RVU identifier is a two-digit number from 00 to 99 appended to a release version
ID and separated from it by a period. When a new RVU is created, the RVU identifier is
incremented by one; for example, H02.01. Generally, new RVUs are created quarterly.
