How to Use an SID to Evaluate an SPR
How to Use an SID to Evaluate an SPR
You might want to keep a log of SPRs as you receive and review their SIDs. You
should note which SPRs have the highest priority for your computing environment and
those you ignore, and the reason why (see Keeping Track of SPRs on page 3-12).
1. Determine if the SPR is applicable to the RVU you have installed.
If not, ignore it. For example, if you are on the G06.21 RVU and the SPR is usable
only with G06.23 and G06.24 RVUs, skip further review of the SPR.
2. Determine whether the SPR is for a product on your system.
If not, ignore it.
3. Review the Assessment field. The assessments from most to least critical are:
Install promptly to avoid critical problems on all systems.
Install promptly to avoid critical problems on systems in certain general
categories.
Install promptly to avoid critical problems in specific cases.
Install when convenient for fixes or new features that significantly benefit all
systems.
Install when convenient for fixes or new features that improve fault tolerance,
availability, or problem diagnosis.
Install if desired to avoid noncritical or highly unlikely problems or for new
features.
4. Determine if the SPR introduces fixes for any defects that could cause an outage,
and if those defects could occur in your environment.
If they could, note that the SPR should undergo further investigation as soon as
possible.
5. Determine if the remaining fixes are relevant to your environment.
If they are, note that the SPR should undergo further investigation.
6. Determine if the new features are beneficial to your environment.
If they are, note that the SPR should undergo further investigation.
7. If you conclude you need to further investigate the SPR, use Scout for NonStop
Servers to view its softdoc, as well as those of its requisites, migration
considerations, and additional features.
