Software Installation Planning
Managing Software Changes427169-005
4-3
Task 3: Create an Installation Plan
For each SPR on your list:
Step 1: Check to See if the SPR Has Been Superseded
Check to see if the SPR has been superseded by a more recent SPR. If it has, review
the SID or softdoc of the superseding SPR to determine which SPR provides the
greater benefit.
Step 2: Evaluate Requisite SPRs
A requisite SPR provides specific functions or data that must be present in your
software configuration for one or more fixes or features in a requiring SPR to be fully
functional.
The softdoc describing an SPR lists any requisite SPRs. These SPRs can be for the
same product as the requiring SPR, but are typically for a different product.
For more information, see Evaluating Requisite SPRs on page 3-8.
If you are using Scout for NonStop Servers, you can submit a search request for
requisite SPRs.
Task 3: Create an Installation Plan
Review these documents:
Manuals in the NTL Release and Migration library for the RVU
README file in the NTL Release and Migration library for the RVU
Use this information to identify all installation tasks, such as creating startup files,
OBEY command files, security settings, and so on. Create an installation plan that
describes exactly what you have to do, including which SPRs you need to install.
Task 4: Obtain Needed SPRs
You can obtain SPRs through Scout for NonStop Servers or contact your local GCSC
or service provider.
Obtaining SPRs Through Scout for NonStop Servers
When you have decided which SPRs you need, you can either download them directly
to your workstation or request tape delivery (see Scout for NonStop Servers online
help for details).
Note. Starting with G06.28 and H06.05, SIDs are only created and published to Scout for
NonStop Servers for Exception Delivery SPRs, which include Time Critical Fixes (TCFs) and
Early Product Deliveries (EPDs). SIDs for Planned Product Maintenance (PPM) SPRs are no
longer produced for G-series and H-series RVU-based SPRs or for Independent Product
SPRs. See Support Note S06013 for details.
