Planning for an RVU Upgrade
Planning for an RVU Upgrade
Task 1: Know What Is Currently Installed on Your System
Task 2: Research the Scope of the New Release Version Update
Task 3: Evaluate “Want to Keep” SPRs
Task 4: Research Additional SPRs for the RVU
Task 5: Evaluate Requisite SPRs
Task 6: Evaluate the Impact of Upgrading to the New RVU
Task 7: Obtain Needed SPRs
Task 8: Install the Release Version Update and Additional SPRs
Task 9: Create an SPR Log File
Task 1: Know What Is Currently Installed on Your System
You need to know which SPRs were delivered on the SUT for the RVU currently
installed on your system.
You must keep a record of the SPRs you have installed on your system since you
installed the RVU.
You can run DSM/SCM reports indicating which products and SPRs have been
installed in the DSM/SCM archive, on the host system, and on any target systems.
You should know the software products installed on your system well enough to
understand how important a product is to your installation and the potential risks
(application and system downtime) should that product halt or fail.
You should understand the installation and operations impacts associated with the
products installed on your system.
Task 2: Research the Scope of the New Release Version Update
Step 1: Read the Release and Migration Information Manuals
for the RVU
To understand the scope of what is new and changed in an RVU, and to better
understand the installation and operational impacts of the software products you are
interested in, review the release and migration manuals in NTL (described under
Release and Migration Library on page 2-3).
