Task 3: Evaluate “Want to Keep” SPRs
Step 2: Study the README File for the New RVU
The README File (described on page 2-7) for the RVU contains information that might
not have been available at the time manuals, softdocs, and other release materials
were produced.
The README file is available:
•
In the NTL Release and Migration Library for the RVU
•
On the site update tape in the RLSEDOC (Y9230) distribution subvolume
Step 3: Start an Impact List
Start an impact list comparing the attributes of your current system with changes in the
new RVU. List new and changed products that are of interest to you. Make a plan for
updating all input or configuration files and programs that need to be changed, based
on your review of the installation and migration manuals for the new RVU.
Task 3: Evaluate “Want to Keep” SPRs
Perform these steps to ensure that features and corrections present in SPRs you
installed individually with your current RVU are maintained in the new RVU.
Continue to refine your impact and SPR lists, comparing fixes and functions delivered
in SPRs installed on your current system with fixes and functions carried into SPRs
delivered in the new RVU.
Step 1: List the SPRs You Want to Keep in the New RVU
Make a list of the SPRs that you have installed individually on your current RVU whose
features and corrections you particularly want to keep in the new RVU.
Step 2: Fill Out an SPR Research Form for Each SPR That
Needs Further Research
Create a copy of the form in Appendix C, SPR Research Form and complete the top
section for each SPR that you need to consider.
On the form, list the function of the SPR installed on your current system that you want
to maintain in the RVU you are considering upgrading to.
Perform Steps 3 and 4 for each of these “want to keep” SPRs. When you have finished
researching all “want to keep” SPRs, continue with Task 4: Research Additional SPRs
for the RVU.
