E Independent Products Policy
An Independent Product is a licensed product that is delivered individually on a
CD-ROM rather than as part of an integrated release version update. An Independent
Product can contain Nonstop operating system components, workstation components,
or a combination of components for both platforms. The policy described in this section
covers only Independent Products containing one or more NonStop operating system
component products.
Independent Product Delivery
To qualify for delivery as an Independent Product, a licensed product must meet these
requirements:
•
All dependencies must be strictly limited.
•
System impact must be minimal (SYSGEN is not required).
A new licensed product, called an Independent Product version, is made available
whenever a significant functional change occurs to an Independent Product. Each
Independent Product version requires a new license.
The licensed product ID of every Independent Product version ends with the letter V
followed by the Independent Product version number. A licensed product ID ending in
Vn (for example, SA01V1 and SC10V3) always indicates an Independent Product.
After the availability date of a new Independent Product version, the previous
Independent Product version can no longer be ordered.
Minor changes and problem resolutions to an Independent Product version are
delivered at frequent intervals as updates. Updates to an Independent Product version
are available at no additional charge to customers already licensed for that version.
Customers ordering an Independent Product version or requesting an update always
receive the latest update available.
In this diagram of two Independent Product versions, SA01V1 is delivered to
customers and receives periodic updates until SA01V2 becomes available. At that
time, SA01V1 is no longer available for order, and no further updates are provided.
