SMB File Server (G-series) and MLSRV (D-series)
Configuration
SMB File Server (G-series) and MLSRV (D-series)
Configuration
NBT only supports DOMAIN objects. This means that the following command must be
used for SMBCOM, on G-series systems, and MLSRVCOM, on D-series systems:
LAN DOMAIN $NBT.#DOM1
LAN ADAPTER and LAN POOL commands will not function with NBT.
The SMB File Server PARAM SMB^ZMRM^NAME must be used with NBT since the
SMB File Server must communicate with the resource manager built into NBT. For
example:
CLEAR ALL
PARAM SMB^ZMRM^NAME $NBT
SMB / NAME $SERV , IN CMDS /
where CMDS is an EDIT file containing SMB configuration commands.
The MLSRV PARAM MLSRV^ZMRM^NAME must be used with NBT since MLSRV
must communicate with the resource manager built into NBT. For example:
CLEAR ALL
PARAM MLSRV^ZMRM^NAME $NBT
MLSRV / NAME $SERV , IN CMDS /
where CMDS is an EDIT file containing MLSRV configuration commands.
Remote Node NetBIOS Configuration
The NetBIOS names are the only configuration items that must match between the local
and remote nodes. They are used by the application-level software and do not concern
NBT.
For example, when using Compaq PCT, Outside View, IXF, and RMPCCOM with
MSDOS or Windows 3.1 the machine name of the remote workstation is defined either
by the RMPCCOM SET MACHINE NAME command or by the network operating
system through the REDIR name command. RMPCCOM creates a NetBIOS name
consisting of the machine name followed by spaces and a lower case “d” for the 16th
character. PCT uses a similar name, but with upper case “L” for the 16th character.
When using the service feature with PCT, configure PCT for a static window, but
instead of a window name, use the service name. For example:
pct.ini WINDOW_NAME=\EAST.$LAN.#TACL
NBTCOM ADD WINDOW #W1,SERVICE TACL
Application TACL / IN $NBT.#W1 , OUT $NBT.#W1, ...
When using PCT, be sure that DEVICE_NAME=LANDRVR is used.
When using Compaq Outside View or similar 3rd party 6530 Terminal emulator on
Windows 95/98/NT, use the MULTILAN configuration screens on the terminal
emulator.
