RFC1001^KA
RFC1001^KA
RFC1001^KA controls keep-alive messages as defined by the RFC1001 specification.
When a NetBIOS session is active (6530 window, WSPTP CALL, or LISTEN), NBT
periodically sends a special null message, which is discarded by the remote workstation
NetBIOS driver. This message forces the TCP Transport Layer to verify that the session
is still fully functional. If the message cannot be delivered, NBT will eventually (in
several minutes) be notified of the failure and will shut down the session.
Most remote workstation RFC1001 implementations periodically send this message.
NBT discards these messages according to the RFC1001 specification.
This feature works independently of, and at a higher level than, the TCP-level keep-alive
feature refer to SOCKET^KA
on page 3-45 for additional information. Using both keep-
alive mechanisms provides the most timely notification of session failure.
RFC1001^KA adds a certain amount of overhead in the form of processor usage, so you
must weigh its benefits against its costs.
This parameter is not normally changed by the user. To display the current setting of this
parameter, use the INFO PROCESS command.
n
specifies either 0 (default) to disable the feature, or a value in the range of 10
through 255 seconds.
